If you want to study dentistry at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), it’s important to know the requirements. Here is a simplified guide:

1. Academic Qualifications:

You need at least five credits in relevant subjects, like Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, from your Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent.

2. JAMB UTME Examination:

You must take the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and meet UNIPORT’s minimum score requirement. The required subjects for dentistry are English Language, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

3. Post-UTME Screening:

Once you achieve the minimum JAMB UTME score, you’ll participate in UNIPORT’s Post-UTME screening, which includes a written examination.

4. Cut-Off Mark:

Admission to dentistry is based on your JAMB UTME score and performance in the Post-UTME screening. UNIPORT sets specific  cut-off marks, and only candidates who meet or exceed them are considered for admission.

5. Direct Entry Admission:

If you have higher qualifications like National Diploma, National Certificate of Education, or Advanced Level certificates, you can apply for direct entry admission. You need to apply through JAMB’s Direct Entry process and meet UNIPORT’s requirements.

6. Other Considerations:

There are additional factors to consider:

a. Age Limit: UNIPORT may have an age limit for admission, so make sure you meet the specified age requirement.

b. Physical and Health Requirements: Due to the nature of dental practice, you may need to undergo a medical examination to determine if you are physically and mentally fit for the program.

c. Interview: UNIPORT might conduct an interview or oral examination as part of the selection process. Prepare by researching common interview questions and practicing your responses.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and it’s always best to check with UNIPORT for the most accurate and up-to-date information on dentistry requirements.
